The Joyes of Winter

Sat Jan 19, 2008, 11:10 AM
I woke up this morning and it is snowing again, for the second time this week. It doesn't look like it's planning to stick, but it's still pretty to watch and there is still the possibility; weather in Rome doesn't kid around. When it rains here, it pours. Steadily. For hours. And then you drop your books in puddles and Pilot P-700 pens prove that they are watertight and amazing so you don't have to fail Perennial Questions. So maybe after an hour or two the snow will decide to stick around. We'll see.

In other news, I have gotten a start on a webcomic that'll go by the name States of Change. It's going to be sort of slice-of-life style, except with werewolves and vampires and orcs and junk instead of a bunch of humans. Friggin humans. Anyway, I've got a few concept sketches and the work for the backgrounds scanned in, so sometime soon I'll be coloring those and putting things together. But! I have a question to pose. I would like to color these at some point or another, but if I keep it black and white inks I can get them done faster. So, do I make them colorful and more finished-looking, or black and white and sooner-to-be-seen? I could compromise with colored title pages, but since it's less a plotted story and more the infernal dumping grounds of all the characters I can't stick in other stories but don't want to rot in the back of my brain, I wouldn't even know what to title any of the nonexistant chapters.

Work on the other webcomic that no one's seen yet (Asphodel) is still on extended hiatus. The first page is completely drawn and colored, the second page is just missing backgroundage, and bits and pieces of later pages are finished, but I have some decisions what need to be made regarding the webcomic, perhaps some discussions to be had, and the writing of the plot to finish. Because this one does have a plot. Somewhere.

Otherwise, I've got a bunch of half-finished and/or scanned stuff in backlog, and there's always the annual weird and/or unpleasant animals in love drawing for Valentines day. I might do two this year because discussions of Valentines day with friends led to a second idea that I don't really want to wait a year to do. They will also eventually be matted and ready for sale, perhaps at a convention of some sort or through e-bay next January/February.

If you see death and fear him, he will pounce and snatch you away to your afterlife, but if you see death and are not afraid of him, he will greet you like an old friend taking you hand-in-hand to the next world. -Anonymous (JOIN THE SWORDS APRIL 20)
November 2007 is International Tuberculosis Awareness Month.

Over one-third of the world's population has been exposed to the TB bacterium, and new infections occur at a rate of one per second. Not everyone infected develops the full-blown disease; asymptomatic, latent TB infection is most common. However, one in ten latent infections will progress to active TB disease, which, if left untreated, kills more than half of its victims.

In 2004, mortality and morbidity statistics included 14.6 million chronic active TB cases, 8.9 million new cases, and 1.6 million deaths, mostly in developing countries. In addition, a rising number of people in the developed world are contracting tuberculosis because their immune systems are compromised by immunosuppressive drugs, substance abuse, or HIV/AIDS.
